Coming together for a cause

The West Moreton community came together in a sea of pink on Wednesday 1 October to launch this year’s Go Pink campaign in support of breast cancer care and services across our region.

Held at Club Services Ipswich, the Go Pink Launch Breakfast brought together local businesses, community groups, healthcare staff, and passionate supporters to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with purpose and pride.

The Foundation was honoured to welcome several special guests, including Ipswich State Members Jennifer Howard MP, Lance McCallum MP, and Wendy Bourne MP; Mayor Tanya Milligan, Cr Julie Reck, and Cr Michael Hagan of Lockyer Valley Regional Council; and Cr Pye Augustine and Cr David Martin of Ipswich City Council. Their attendance reflected the strong civic and community support behind this important cause.

Stories that inspired the room

Guests heard from West Moreton Health Foundation CEO Scott Young and West Moreton Health Chief Executive Hannah Bloch, who spoke about the incredible partnership between the Foundation and West Moreton Health, and how community support through Go Pink continues to make a real difference for local patients, families, and healthcare teams.

“Go Pink is a campaign that unites our community in such a powerful way,” said West Moreton Health Foundation CEO Scott Young. “Every donation, every event, and every person who chooses to Go Pink helps us ensure that breast cancer patients in our region receive the best possible care close to home.”

Guests were moved by stories from those at the heart of local breast cancer care, including Dr Susan Bell, who shared an update on the impact of the SCOUT wire-free localisation technology — a piece of equipment funded by the Foundation and introduced at Ipswich Hospital one year ago. The innovative technology has transformed care for local breast cancer patients by making procedures less invasive and improving the overall treatment experience.

West Moreton Health nurse Gillian, who is currently undergoing breast cancer treatment, bravely shared her personal journey, speaking about how many people are affected by breast cancer and the importance of early detection. She encouraged everyone to stay on top of their regular checks — a powerful reminder of how awareness and action can save lives.

Making a difference together

Attendees were excited to hear that funds raised for Go Pink so far this year were approaching $30,000, with every dollar helping to support vital breast cancer care and services across the West Moreton region.

“Seeing so many people come together with generosity and heart is inspiring,” Mr Young said. “The funds raised through Go Pink go directly toward projects and equipment that improve comfort, care, and outcomes for local patients — and that’s something our whole community can be proud of.”

The entire morning served as a touching reflection on how past Go Pink fundraising has already transformed care, including state-of-the-art equipment, patient comfort initiatives, and improvements to treatment facilities.

Heartfelt thanks to our supporters

The Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, donated, or supported the event — including our generous event sponsors Club Services Ipswich and BESIX Watpac, our prize donors, volunteers, community leaders, and event MC Janette Adams from Obsession Shoes.

“Together, we’re helping to detect it, treat it, and defeat it,” Mr Young added. “Thank you to everyone who continues to stand with us — your support truly changes lives.”
