A legacy of care and community
The Regina and Vicki Doig morning tea celebrates two sisters whose impact still shapes our community.
Regina Doig was a talented music and language teacher who died from lymphoma at just 39. Before she passed, she made a brave and generous decision to donate her body to medical research so others might receive better care in the future.
Her sister, Vicki, spent 40 years leading Milford Street Ipswich Kindergarten and created this event in 2021 to honour Regina and support vital cancer research here at home. Each year, the morning tea brings people together, raises funds and keeps Regina’s legacy alive through practical support for local researchers.
How your support helps
Funds raised through the morning tea go directly to the Regina and Vicki Doig Scholarship. This scholarship supports West Moreton Health researchers who are working to improve cancer care for people in our region.
Recent scholarship-funded projects include:
- Improving dietetic care for oncology patients. This research is helping tailor nutrition support so patients can manage treatment better and maintain their wellbeing.
- Strengthening support for people preparing for stoma surgery. This work focuses on improving preoperative counselling so patients feel more informed, confident and supported.
Some of the research supported by the scholarship has already been published in international oncology journals, showing just how far local generosity can reach.
When you buy a ticket or make a donation, you help continue this important work and support better cancer care for our community.
